Family Centre

Lucilla Della Nave Family Centre

The name ''Lucilla Della Nave family Centre'' was a 'surprise gift' Lucilla received from people from the village on the occasion of her visit to Uganda in 2008.

At the very beginning it was just a very precarious small building that Lucilla managed to set up with the idea of creating a place in which men, women and young people could meet and organize their activities with a common purpose: to fully realize the family unit. Then, over the years, people at Ntarabana developed a properly structured organization by creating three Associations.

The Associations alive in the Family Centre are:

NAMUDA – Men's Association – registered at Kabale District

NAMUDA - NTARABANA MEN UNITED DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION

They engage in:

  • growing crops like cabbage, Irish potatoes, sweet potatoes, beans
  • keeping pigs (piggery)
  • keeping bees (apiary) and producing honey
  • saving money (savings and credit)
NAWEPE – Women's Association – registered at Kabale District

NAWEPE - NTARABANA WOMEN EFFORT FOR POVERTY ERADICATION

They engage in:

  • Ugandan handcrafts
  • catering
  • tailoring
  • education for adults
  • saving money (savings and credit)
NTAYUDA – Youths’ Association

NTAYUDA - NTARABANA YOUTH DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION
A group of smart boys and girls created an association which would bring them together as well as let them share innovative ideas in order to develop them both on an individual and a shared basis.

NTAYUDA is open to all young people who hail from Ntarabana and its nearby villages.

Activities

The activities of the Family Centre – fully operative since 2008 - are organized and guided by the brothers of Dr. Pastor Mpora and their close collaborators. All of them live in Ntarabana.

Such activities, which until now have significantly contributed to the improvement of the precarious conditions of the local families, include the following:

  • seminars relating to prevention, care and maintenance of health, hygiene and nutrition
  • treatment of the most common local diseases such as malaria, AIDS, hepatitis and typhoid
  • courses related to general education and culture
  • seminars on economic and socio-economic development
  • courses on readiness for childbirth and postnatal preparation
  • courses in preparation for marriage and seminars on family life for married couples
  • study and analysis of individual projects

In addition, the Family Centre is a place to cultivate friendship and people can go whenever they want, even just to meet. The dimension of faith is important in the Family Centre and ecumenism is encouraged. Communal prayer comes first. True Christian values are freely shared.

Ntarabana families are in urgent need of help.

Our Association has been engaged for many years in supporting the Family Centre and its activities to help men, women and children in order for them to influence their own development despite the difficulties with which they live and the little means available to them.

We are joined by a few faithful and loyal friends, but much more can be done.

We should contribute to help families tested by poverty.
